"Parable of the Pharisee and Tax Collector" (Luke 18:9-14)

"Parable of the Pharisee and Tax Collector"

Scripture: Luke 18:9-14

9 Also He spoke this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: 10 "Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, ''God, I thank You that I am not like other men—extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I possess.'' 13 And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ''God, be merciful to me a sinner!'' 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."

"Parable of the Slave" (Luke 17:7-10)

"Parable of the Slave"

Scripture: Luke 17:7-10

7 And which of you, having a servant plowing or tending sheep, will say to him when he has come in from the field, ''Come at once and sit down to eat''? 8 But will he not rather say to him, ''Prepare something for my supper, and gird yourself and serve me till I have eaten and drunk, and afterward you will eat and drink''? 9 Does he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I think not. 10 So likewise you, when you have done all those things which you are commanded, say, ''We are unprofitable servants. We have done what was our duty to do.'' "

"Parable of Two Builders" (Luke 6:46-49)

"Parable of Two Builders"

Scripture: Luke 6:46-49

46 "But why do you call Me ''Lord, Lord,'' and not do the things which I say? 47 Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: 48 He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock. 49 But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great."

"Parable of the Rich Man" (Luke 16:19-31)

"Parable of the Rich Man"

Scripture: Luke 16:19-31

19 "There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day. 20 But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, who was laid at his gate, 21 desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man''s table. Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. 22 So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham''s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

24 "Then he cried and said, ''Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.'' 25 But Abraham said, ''Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented. 26 And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.''

27 "Then he said, ''I beg you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father''s house, 28 for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment.'' 29 Abraham said to him, ''They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.'' 30 And he said, ''No, father Abraham; but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.'' 31 But he said to him, ''If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.'' "
